The best logic analyzers solve circuit and design issues quickly. NCI logic analyzers find timing, state, and design errors missed by other [Test And Measurement Tools](/gologicpro-72-logic-analyzer/ "Test And Measurement Tools"). The GoLogic logic analyzer provides accurate, sensitive probes, fast sample rates, very large trace captures, and [Powerful Software Tools](/logic-analyzer-software/ "Logic Analyzer Software"). NCI has produced logic analyzers since 1987 and provides expert advice and support to our customers. Transitional Timing mode at 3.2 GHz captures fast data-bursts separated by very long periods of bus inactivity. This is an ideal sample mode for modern serial bus decoding. State Analysis features support single data-rate SDR clocks up to 300 MHz and double data-rate DDR rates up to 250 MHz (effectively 500 MHz SDR). The [GoLogic7 software](/logic-analyzer-software/ "GoLogicPro software") provides an intuitive interface and offers many useful features no other test and measurement tools can match. NCI is pleased to provide our customers with expert logic analyzer support before and after the sale. You can rely on us for high-quality products and exceptional service. [Contact NCI](/logic-analyzer-contact/ "Contact Us") our team with any questions you have regarding our products or how each one can help you. We value every customer. [![logic analzyer system](https://nci-usa.com/wp-content/uploads/logic_analyzer_34_channels_more.jpg "logic_analyzer_34_channels_more - NCI Logic Analyzers")](/gologicpro-36-logic-analyzer/) ## Fast Sample Rates The GoLogic has the speed to find the most difficult circuit debug issues. Sample rates from 10 KHz to 4 GHz can capture any digital signal. ## Advanced Triggers TriggerForms™ make the trigger setup easy. 32 value triggers, 16 edge triggers, plus timers and counters can detect any event. Use up to 16 trigger levels to create a complex trigger series. ## Deep Memory 4 Billion samples captures a bigger picture. View errors and their after-effects with extremely large sample depths. ## Transitional Sampling Our Transitional Sampling mode stores data only when the captured signals change. The result is an extremely efficient capture mode perfect for extremely fast data bursts followed by long periods of inactivity. ## Logic Analyzer Probe Options The GoLogicPro offers [General-Purpose Leadsets, Mictor Probes, and PinPoint Probes ](/logic-analyzer-probes/ "Logic Analyser Probes") to meet most testing needs. Both Mictor and PinPoint probe types are industry-standards used on many PCB designs. The PinPoint probe (also called “soft touch” or “connectorless” probes) is the best solution to capture high-speed signals with low-capacitance loading. [![soft touch probe d-max probe mictor probe](https://nci-usa.com/wp-content/uploads/logic_analyzer_probes_more.jpg "logic_analyzer_probes_more - NCI Logic Analyzers")](/logic-analyzer-probes/) ## Differential and Single-ended Inputs All NCI logic analyzer probe types support both single-ended and differential signals. Switching modes is just a software option. ## Design Quality All NCI logic analyzer probes… - Use coaxial shielding for each leadset wire. - Provide a ground for each channel to reject noise and avoid crosstalk. - Use a passive circuit inside each lead-tip to match wire impedance. - Present low loads: 100 Kohm, 5 pF picofarad. - Support 300 mV voltage swings. - Every channel has its own threshold to assure optimum sampling point. GoLogic logic analyzer probes are 100% compatible with PCB connections used with other logic analyzer manufacturers. However, NCI probes can only be used with the GoLogicPro logic analyzer and cannot be used with other logic analyzer makers. [![mixed signal oscilloscope MSO](https://nci-usa.com/wp-content/uploads/mixed_signal_mso_more.jpg "mixed_signal_mso_more - NCI Logic Analyzers")](/mixed-signal-analysis/) ## Mixed Signal Analysis Connect our trigger-out BNC cable to your DSO and the GoLogicPro triggers your scope too. With each trace capture, ScopeLink™ downloads and time-aligns the analog DSO signals with the logic analyzer timing diagrams. View the raw analog signals from you DSO time-aligned with the timing diagrams inside the WaveForm view. ## External Clock Speed Our State Analysis mode supports 300 MHz SDR and 250 MHz DDR (500 MHz SDR effective) external clock speeds. ## Serial Bus Analysis The GoLogicPro logic analyzer supports the most common serial bus types used for embedded and automotive engineering... - 1-Wire - CAN / CAN-FD - CLK + Data (custom bit-stream) - DMX512 - eSPI (enhanced SPI) - I2C / MIPI I3C (SenseWire) - I2S audio - JTAG - LIN - LPC (Low Pin Count) - MDIO / SMI - ONFI-SDR - PWM Encoder - Quad SPI / SPI-MIO (SPI Multi-IO) - SDIO / MMC / eMMC (Secure Digital) - SENT (sensor data) - SPI (Microwire, µ-wire, Microsecond Bus) - UART (RS-232, RS-422, etc.) ## Serial Bus Decode and Trigger The GoLogicPro Logic Analyzer includes [Serial Bus Trigger and Decode](/logic-analyzer-serial-bus/ "Serial Bus Trigger and Decode") features... - Capture extremely long periods of low-level serial bus behavior. - Capture up to 32 serial buses together, even different bus types. - Trigger on complex serial bus packets and data values. Dedicated trigger hardware detects up to 128 "events" such as clock edges or baud bits. Complex packets with header values and data bytes can trigger the logic analyzer. - The WaveForm view displays the decoded bus values time-aligned with the raw signals. - Export the serial bus values to text or CSV files for outside software analysis using Excel or Mathcad. [![](https://nci-usa.com/wp-content/uploads/multi_bus.jpg "multi_bus - NCI Logic Analyzers")](/logic-analyzer-serial-bus/) ## Software Trace Analysis Our [Trace Analysis Tools](/logic-analyzer-analysis/ "Trace Analysis Tools") can remove noise and glitches automatically after each trace capture. We can also automatically compare all the samples in each trace capture to the correct values you define. All compare errors are counted so you know how many occur in each trace capture. The analysis tools can bookmark each error for later review. ## Custom Logic Analyzer Software NCI offers three ways to create custom logic analyzer software… [Software Developer’s Kit (SDK)](/logic-analyzer-custom-sdk/) The SDK allows you to write a custom program that controls the GoLogicPro logic analyser device. Your program sends commands to capture and download trace data for dedicated analysis. The SDK is the perfect way to develop a custom production testing program or embed the GoLogicPro inside another product. [Plugin Developer’s Kit (PDK)](/logic-analyzer-custom-pdk/) The PDK allows you to write a custom plugin for the GoLogic7 user interface. Create a custom text view that automatically processes each trace capture. The results are displayed in a view pane inside the GoLogic7 software. Scroll your custom window along with our WaveForm, Numeric, and Serial Bus Display panes. [Analysis Development Kit (ADK)](/logic-analyzer-custom-adk/ "Logic Analyzer Custom Analysis") The ADK allows you to create custom Analysis Tools for the GoLogic7 logic analyzer software. Your analysis plugin executes and displays results after each trace capture. Each plugin can display a message summary, save a custom text file, or bookmark specific samples in the trace capture. Analysis plugins can also create modified trace data for display in the WaveForm and Numeric views. NCI offers industry-standard [Logic Analyzer](/gologicpro-72-logic-analyzer/ "Logic Analyser") features, faster sample rates, deeper memory, and advanced triggers. You can depend on our accurate, sensitive hardware and productive software tools. Discover how our logic analysers can accelerate your digital hardware and firmware development. GoLogic logic analyzer probes are 100% compatible with PCB connections used with other logic analyzer manufacturers. However, NCI probes can only be used with the GoLogicXL logic analyzer and cannot be used with other logic analyzer makers. The GoLogic7 software offers a dedicated editor for each probe type: [Pods, Spreadsheet, Mictor, and PinPoint](/logic-analyzer-software/ "Logic Analyser Probes"). ## Accurate Sensitive Probes All GoLogicPro probes maintain signal integrity by coaxially shielding each input wire. Each channel tip also includes passive circuitry to minimize loading. Logic analyzer probes that lack shielding or circuitry can create loading and crosstalk problems. [Logic Analyzer Probes](/logic-analyzer-probes/ "Logic Analyser Probes") that distort the signals cause problems. [![logic analyzer soft touch probe d-max probe](https://nci-usa.com/wp-content/uploads/logic_analyzer_probes_more.jpg "logic_analyzer_probes_more - NCI Logic Analyzers")](/logic-analyzer-probes/) ## Advanced Triggers Enormous sample depths cannot substitute for logic analyzer triggering. The GoLogicPro TriggerForms provides value triggers, edge triggers, timers, and counters. With these logic analyzer trigger tools, any event in your digital signals can be detected. The Simple, Series, and TimeBetween TriggerForms™ simplify the setup when the full trigger capabilities are not needed. For the most advanced trigger needs, the Custom TriggerForm exposes all GoLogicPro trigger features. ![logic analyser trigger](https://nci-usa.com/wp-content/uploads/trig_time_between.jpg "trig_time_between - NCI Logic Analyzers") The GoLogicPro has a 16 level trigger sequence with 32 value triggers and 16 edge triggers. Each level also provides a 32-bit timer and a 32-bit counter to further qualify trigger events. The GoLogicPro also provides special hardware for serial bus triggering. ## GHz Sample Rates Logic analyzers must have the speed to recreate your signals accurately. The GoLogicPro is one of very few logic analysers offering up to 4 GHz sampling rates. ## Deep Memory Sometimes there is no substitute for a large trace capture where the cause and effect of a problem are separated by a long time period. With up to 8 GB of installed high-speed memory, the GoLogicPro can capture up to 1 billion samples across 72 channels (more if fewer channels are enabled). USB “streaming” logic analyzers offer slower sampling rates across few channels. The [Logic Analyzer Streaming](/logic-analyzer-streaming/ "Logic Analyzer Streaming") topic discusses why NCI logic analyzers do not stream data directly to disk. ## 300 MHz State Analysis In State Analysis mode, an external clock signal from your device defines when the logic analyzer latches the input signals. The GoLogicPro can be configured so that trace is captured on the input clock signal’s rising edge, falling edge, or both edges (double data rate, DDR). Moreover, the GoLogicPro provides two State Analysis modes for maximum versatility. The first mode allows any logic analyzer channel to be defined as a clock input or qualifier. Up to 8 channels can be used to define when the input signals are latched. However, this flexibility limits the maximum clock speed allowed. For fast clock signals, our logic analysers offers a dedicated clock channel which is connected to your device’s clock signal. Using a Phase Link Loop, this high-speed clock channel can sync with clock signals up to SDR 300 MHz single data rate or DDR 250 MHz double data rate (500 MHz effective). ## Differential and Single-Ended Probes The GoLogicPro captures both single-ended and differential inputs using any of our probing options: flying leadset, Mictor, or PinPoint. Very few logic analyzers can capture differential input signals. [![differential signal logic analyser](https://nci-usa.com/wp-content/uploads/logic_analyzer_probe_320x220.jpg "logic_analyzer_probe_320x220 - NCI Logic Analyzers")](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtpw90D20vE) The need to increase clock speeds and reduce power consumption has forced smaller voltage swings for most logic families. Capturing such small voltage swings is only possible with advanced input circuitry and well-designed probes. The GoLogicPro supports a 300 mV minimum voltage swing in single-ended input mode, and a 150 mV minimum in differential input mode. ## 1 GHz Transitional Sampling Few logic analyzers provide Transitional Timing mode. This extremely powerful GoLogicPro feature provides high-resolution trace captures that also span very long periods of time. Transitional Timing allows the logic analyser to capture pulses only a few nanoseconds wide separated by seconds, minutes, or even hours of inactivity. The result is extremely precise trace captures which can span hours and even days of signal activity. ## Serial Bus Analysis The GoLogicPro logic analyzer supports the most common serial bus types used for embedded and automotive engineering... - 1-Wire - CAN / CAN-FD - CLK + Data (custom bit-stream) - DMX512 - eSPI (enhanced SPI) - I2C / MIPI I3C (SenseWire) - I2S audio - JTAG - LIN - LPC (Low Pin Count) - MDIO / SMI - ONFI-SDR - PWM Encoder - Quad SPI / SPI-MIO (SPI Multi-IO) - SDIO / MMC / eMMC (Secure Digital) - SENT (sensor data) - SPI (Microwire, µ-wire, Microsecond Bus) - UART (RS-232, RS-422, etc.) ## Serial Bus Decode and Trigger The GoLogicPro Logic Analyzer includes [Serial Bus Trigger and Decode](/logic-analyzer-serial-bus/ "Serial Bus Trigger and Decode") features... - Capture extremely long periods of low-level serial bus behavior. - Capture up to 32 serial buses together, even different bus types. - Trigger on complex serial bus packets and data values. Dedicated trigger hardware detects up to 128 "events" such as clock edges or baud bits. Complex packets with header values and data bytes can trigger the logic analyzer. - The WaveForm view displays the decoded bus values time-aligned with the raw signals. - Export the serial bus values to text or CSV files for outside software analysis using Excel or Mathcad. All prices are F.O.B. Huntsville, AL USA. ##### Can the logic analyser memory and channels be upgraded later? Yes. The logic analyzer must be returned to NCI for upgrades. ##### Can I exchange my old logic analyzer for a newer model? NCI does not offer a trade-in program for used logic analyzers. ## System Requirements ##### How does the logic analyzer connect to the PC? NCI logic analyzers connect to the PC via a USB port. The latest model uses USB 3.1 for faster transfer rates. ##### Does the logic analyzer work with USB 3.x host ports? Yes, the GoLogicPro supports USB 3.1 transfer rates. ##### Which versions of Windows® does the software support? NCI software supports 64-bit versions of Windows® 7, 8, 10, and 11. NCI does not support 32-bit versions of Windows. NCI software no longer can be installed on Windows XP or Vista. [More details are available here.](/logic-analyzer-xp-support/ "WinXP and Vista support ends") No version of Windows Server is supported. Our software cannot be installed under these platforms. Basic services the software requires are often not enabled or installed under Windows Server editions. ##### Will a slow computer affect the logic analyzer sampling rate? No. NCI logic analyzers run independently from the host PC. All captured trace data is stored to high-speed dynamic RAM inside the logic analyser. The data is transferred to the host PC (or laptop) after the logic analyzer stops capturing data. ##### What computer should I use? You can use [Any PC Running Windows 7](/logic-analyzer-pc/ "Logic Analyzer PC Recommendations") or later. However, NCI logic analyzers can produce so much data that you’ll really appreciate a modern workstation’s speed. ##### Is the software faster with more CPU cores? The WaveForm view [Uses Every CPU](/logic-analyzer-pc/ "Logic Analyzer Parallel Processing") to display large sections of timing diagrams on screen in real time. This technique is a genuine benefit while viewing and navigating a billion trace samples. ##### Does NCI support Unix/Linux or Apple OS? NCI does not support Unix/Linux or Apple OS. NCI logic analyzer software can run inside a virtual machine on these platforms. The VM must have direct access to a physical host USB port. However, NCI has not tested this method and does not offer tech support for VM solutions. ## Hardware ##### Are NCI logic analyzers secure? NCI logic analyzers are secure devices. NCI uses the WinUSB kernel device driver authored, digitally signed, and maintained by Microsoft. This device driver is included with Windows. The NCI driver installer simply maps the NCI Vendor and Product IDs to the standard WinUSB driver. NCI logic analyzers are a passive USB device controlled by your computer. The logic analyzers returns data in response to commands from your computer. The logic analyzer cannot initiate I/O with the computer or any other device. Only the host computer physically connected to the logic analyzer via the USB port can control the device. NCI logic analyzers save the captured data to high-speed volatile memory inside the logic analyzer. This memory is blank when the device power is disconnected. Simply disconnect the power supply and USB cables to erase any captured trace data inside the logic analyzer. The only non-volatile memory inside NCI logic analyzers is a single ROM which is burned by NCI. The ROM chip holds the USB interface programming so Windows can communicate with the logic analyzer. Only NCI can access or update these ROM chips. ##### Can I link two or more logic analyzer units into one, large logic analyzer? The GoLogic7 software supports only one logic analyzer per computer. Up to 8 “copies” of the program can run together, but only the first copy has access to the logic analyzer device. The other copies always use demo mode. ##### How long does it take to download the maximum sample depths using USB 3.1? ### Base memory option - About 1.5 seconds ### Mid memory option - About 3 seconds ### Large memory option - About 6 seconds The above download times are provided for illustration purposes and not guaranteed. The download speeds on your PC may be slightly slower or faster. Transfers rates depend somewhat on the USB 3.1 host hardware and kernel drivers. As the trace size is reduced, the download time is also reduced. For example, trace captures with 16M samples or less download almost instantly. A USB 2.1 host port downloads the data approximately 10X slower than the above values. Obviously, we recommend using a USB 3.1 host port. After each download, the software must process the data. The post-download processing period is not reflected in the above USB download times. The one-time processing improves the real-time display speeds and allows the software to display hundreds of millions of trace samples in the WaveForm window. For traces 8M samples and smaller, this processing period is barely noticeable. But for very large trace captures, the one-time processing period make last several seconds. ##### Can NCI logic analyzers stream to PC memory for 'unlimited' samples? NCI does not support streaming to PC memory or disk. USB "streaming" logic analyzers offer slower sampling rates across few channels. The [Logic Analyzer Streaming](/logic-analyzer-streaming/ "Logic Analyzer Streaming") topic discusses why NCI logic analyzers do not stream data directly to disk. ##### What is the maximum time-span for the fastest Normal Timing rates? Time spanned = (Max samples) X (Time per sample) ### Base memory option - 72 channels: 268M samples @ 500 MHz = 536 milliseconds - 36 channels: 536M samples @ 1 GHz = 536 milliseconds - 18 channels: 1G samples @ 2 GHz = 536 milliseconds ### Mid memory option - 72 channels: 536M samples @ 500 MHz = 1 second - 36 channels: 1G samples @ 1 GHz = 1 second - 18 channels: 2G samples @ 2 GHz = 1 second ### Large memory option - 72 channels: 1G samples @ 500 MHz = 2 seconds - 36 channels: 2G samples @ 1 GHz = 2 seconds - 18 channels: 4G samples @ 2 GHz = 2 seconds Of course, slower sampling rates increase the time spanned by a trace capture. For example, 1 billion samples using a 1 GHz sampling rate spans about 1 second. Likewise, almost 2 hours are spanned by 67M samples using a 10KHz sampling rate. ##### What is the maximum time-span for the fastest Transitional Timing rate? The timed spanned by Transitional timing mode depends on the input signal activity. If the input signals constantly change, the time spanned by a Transitional timing capture is about 1.5 to 2 times longer than if Normal timing at the same sampling rate had been used. If the inputs signals are slow relative to the sampling rate, or the inputs are inactive for long periods of time between bursts of activity, then Transitional timing is a huge improvement over Normal timing mode. The online manual’s [Appendices](/GoLogic7Help/htm/apndx_list.htm "Logic Analyzer TimeStamp Limits") explains the time stamp limits. ##### Is Transitional Timing mode useful even if my input signals change constantly? Yes! To accurately capture the input signals, both Normal and Transitional timing modes must over-sample your signals at least 5x. For example, the sampling rate should be at least 500 MHz to capture an accurate representation of a 100 MHz input signal. Normal timing mode stores all samples to memory, even when the signals have not changed. Transitional timing mode stores only when a change occurs on the input signals. Given an identical 5x over-sampling for both modes, Transitional timing ignores 3 or 4 non-changing samples that Normal timing would store to memory. This extends the time spanned by a Transitional timing capture about 3 to 4 times greater than a Normal timing capture. Of course, Transitional timing mode must also store a 32-bit timestamp with each sample. This timestamp memory reduces the sample depth by half. If the logic analyzer captures 134M samples in Normal timing, then only 67M samples are stored in Transitional timing mode. But even with half the total samples, Transitional timing still captures a larger time-span than Normal Timing mode. Since Normal timing stores 3 to 4 redundant samples, Transitional timing usually captures from 50% to 100% larger time span. ## Software ##### Can I graph the trace data? Yes. Trace data can be viewed as a [Time vs. Magnitude Graph](/logic-analyzer-graphs/ "Logic Analyzer Graphing") in the WaveForm view. ##### Can I export the trace data to other programs? Yes. The captured trace data can be [Exported To Text or VCD](/logic-analyzer-export/ "Logic Analyzer Trace Export") files. The format can be adjusted so that Excel or MatLab can easily import the text file. VCD (Value Change Dump) files can be loaded into simulators or another VCD display program. In addition, the software provides convenient screen capture tools to make copying and pasting timing diagram images into word processing or graphics programs. ##### Can I customize the logic analzyer software? NCI logic analyzer software can be customized using two methods… First, the [Analysis Development Kit (ADK)](/logic-analyzer-custom-adk/ "Logic Analyzer Analysis Tools") allows you to create custom trace data analysis tools that execute inside the main software. Your custom tool can scan each trace capture and display statistics on specific errors or events. No Windows programming experience is required to create an ADK PlugIn. However, simple C programming knowledge is required. The ADK provide example C source code and Microsoft Visual Studio example projects. Second, the [PlugIn Development Kit (PDK)](/logic-analyzer-custom-pdk/ "Logic Analyzer Custom PlugIns") allows you to create custom text display views inside the main software. Trace captures can be displayed in a custom text format. No Windows programming experience is required to create a PDK PlugIn. However, simple C programming knowledge is required. We provide example C source code and Microsoft Visual Studio example projects. ##### Can I create custom software to control the logic analyzer? The [Software Development Kit (SDK)](/logic-analyzer-custom-sdk/ "Logic Analyzer Custom Software") provides documentation and libraries to control NCI logic analyzers. C++ and LabView example projects are also provided. ##### Can the logic analyzer be used with stand-alone oscilloscopes? Scope data can be viewed in the WaveForm view using our [ScopeLink](/mixed-signal-analysis/ "Mixed Signal Oscilloscope") feature. ScopeLink integrates your Tektronix or Keysight/Agilent digital storage oscilloscope (DSO) in to the GoLogic7 software. --- ### [Logic Analyzer About](https://nci-usa.com/logic-analyzer-about/) **Published:** November 25, 2014 **Author:** a84237 **Content:** # About NCI Logic Analyzers NCI has been a pioneer in pc-based instrumentation since 1987. Our approach supports more channels, the fastest sampling rates, and the most accurate trace data captures. After the logic analyzer fills its memory and stops running, the captured data is downloaded to the PC memory for display and analysis. ## Why Stream? USB 3.1 offers enough bandwidth to directly stream captured data to PC memory provided… - 16 or fewer channels are required. - Slower sampling rates are adequate. In theory, streaming the trace data to the PC offers several benefits. First, omitting high-speed memory inside the logic analyzer reduces the analyzer’s cost. Second, trace captures should be limited only by the size and speed of installed PC memory. Third, the trace data could be displayed on screen while it’s being captured. ## Why Not Stream? Advanced logic analyzers which capture modern digital signals require… - More than 16 channels are required. - GHz sampling rates are required. The largest problem with streaming logic analyzers is that Windows offers no guarantees it won’t pause a USB data transfer at random moments. Any OS interruption manifests as a “gap” in the trace data. When an OS preemption occurs, an entire trace capture may be wasted. Worse, any “gaps” in the trace data are often undetectable. Certainly, features can be integrated into a streaming logic analyser to minimize streaming errors. For example, the logic analyzer might use a very large First-In-First-Out (FIFO) queue to act as a buffer. The logic analyzer can also support error flags to detect buffer “over-runs” or USB stalls. Eventually, the “cheap and simple” stream-to-disk logic analyzer becomes complex as an unlimited design using local high-speed memory. Worse, USB streaming errors can still occur, even with these safeguards. Closing other programs, disabling virus scanning, and disabling Windows Automatic Updates may reduce the chances of buffer over-runs and USB stalls, but the OS can still wreck streamed trace captures even with these workarounds. NCI logic analzyers offer gigabytes of installed memory. That’s a lot of data to display, manage, and analyze. You actually need a capable workstation PC to just display and analyze that much trace data. The features offered by NCI logic analyzers eliminate any need for direct streaming methods. A single trace capture using Transitional Timing can span days, months, or even years yet still provide nanosecond sampling resolution. Even while using GHz oversampling, slow input signals or very long periods of inactivity do not waste logic analzyer memory. --- ### [Logic Analyzer Recommended PC](https://nci-usa.com/logic-analyzer-pc/) **Published:** December 10, 2014 **Author:** a84237 **Content:** ##### [Home](nci-usa.com "Logic Analyzer Home") » [Logic Analyzer FAQ](/logic-analyzer-faq/ "Logic Analyzer FAQ") » Recommended PC # Logic Analyzer PC ## Windows Version NCI v7 logic analyzer software has two Windows requirements… - 64-bit Windows 7, 8, 10, or 11. - NCI no longer supports 32-bit Windows. ## Recommended Computer A relatively small trace capture with a few million samples across a dozen channels doesn’t use much memory or demand much CPU power. For this reason, our GoLogic7 installer has no requirement for CPU or installed memory. However, you’ll probably find using an old, slow computer is rather limiting. NCI logic analyzers can capture so much data that you’ll really appreciate the speed provided by a modern workstation PC. Processing and displaying hundreds of millions of samples across dozens of channels makes very heavy memory and computational demands. Obviously, a faster computer with plenty of memory is a strong benefit. For optimal use with the LARGE memory option GoLogicPro, we recommend… **Basic System:** A 4-core CPU with 16 GB of memory. 4 physical CPU cores are fast enough to display the WaveForms with reasonable delays when very large trace captures are zoomed out. 16 GB of memory permits the largest sample-depths to be downloaded and processed. **Best System:** An 8 to 16-core CPU with 32 GB of memory. More physical CPU cores divide the WaveForm view into smaller sections. Each CPU has less work, so the WaveForm view scrolls and zooms, much faster. 32 GB of memory provides ample space for the GoLogic7 software plus other programs which may run at the same time. ## Many CPUs = Faster Display The image below shows how 64 threads divide the WaveForm view into small sections. Each thread processes a small section of trace data. Since all screen sections are processed at the same time, the update rate is about 64X faster than using one thread. The timing diagrams scroll and zoom significantly faster. Since the GoLogicPro can capture up to billions of samples, multi-threading makes a significant performance difference. ![logic analyser pc](https://nci-usa.com/wp-content/uploads/waveform_cpus.jpg "waveform_cpus - NCI Logic Analyzers") --- ### [Logic Analyzer Custom PlugIn Development Kit](https://nci-usa.com/logic-analyzer-custom-pdk/) **Published:** November 25, 2014 **Author:** a84237 **Content:** ##### [Home](/mainsite/ "Logic Analyzer Home") » [Logic Analyzer Software](/mainsite/logic-analyzer-software/ "Logic Analyzer Software") » PlugIn Development Kit # PlugIn Development Kit The logic analyzer Plugin Development Kit allows our customers to create custom view panes that exist inside our Windows interface software. Rather than process millions of samples with a single CPU, the software divides this task among all the available CPUs. Each CPU only processes a fraction of the visible trace capture. If the average 4-core to 8-core CPU is adequate, then 16-cores will be great, and 32-cores will be even faster (but is not required!). The NCI logic analyzer software supports up to 32 physical cores each executing 2 thread (64 “threads” total). The image below shows how 64 threads divide the WaveForm display into tiny sections. Each thread only process’s about 24 pixels. Since all threads run at the same time, the update time is about 1/64th the time for one thread.
