Logic Analyzer PC
Windows Version
NCI v7 logic analyzer software has two Windows requirements…
- 64-bit Windows 7, 8, 10, or later.
- NCI no longer supports 32-bit Windows.
Recommended Computer
A relatively small trace capture with a few million samples across a dozen channels doesn’t use much memory or demand much CPU power. For this reason, our installer programs have no lower limits on CPU speed or installed memory. However, you’ll probably find using an old, slow computer is rather annoying.
NCI logic analyzers can capture so much data that you’ll really appreciate the speed provided by a modern workstation PC. Processing and displaying hundreds of millions of samples across dozens of channels makes very heavy memory and computational demands. Obviously, a faster computer with plenty of memory is a strong benefit. For optimal use, we recommend…
Basic System: A 4-core CPU with 8GB of memory. 4 physical CPU cores are fast enough to display the WaveForms with reasonable delays when very large trace captures are zoomed out. 8GB of memory permits the largest sample-depths to be downloaded and processed.
Best System: An 8-core to 16-core CPU with 8 to 16GB of memory. More physical CPU cores divide the WaveForm view into smaller sections. Each CPU has less work, so the WaveForm view scrolls and zooms, much faster. 8GB of memory provides ample space for the GoLogic7 software plus other programs which may run at the same time.
Many CPUs = Faster Display
The image below shows how 64 threads divide the WaveForm view into small sections. Each thread processes a small section of trace data. Since all screen sections are processed at the same time, the update rate is about 64X faster than using one thread. The timing diagrams scroll and zoom significantly faster. Since the GoLogicXL can capture up to 1 billion samples, multi-threading makes a significant performance difference.
