ScopeLink

ScopeLink allows mixed-signal analysis to be performed inside the logic analyzer software.

The NCI logic analyzer software can control a Tektronix® or Keysight® digital storage oscilloscope (DSO) configured for single-shot mode.

With each logic analyzer trace capture, the analog scope data is automatically downloaded, aligned with the logic analyzer data, and then displayed in the WaveForm view.

Install VISA

Tektronix Scopes are controlled by TekVISA.

Keysight Scopes are controlled by their IO Libraries.

The NCI logic analyzer software can control newer-model Tektronix® or Keysight® digital storage oscilloscope (DSO) configured for single-shot mode.

ScopeLink does not define the scope's voltage scale or sampling rate. Configure the scope via its front panel to display the signals on-screen before enabling ScopeLink. Some scope models lock out their front panel after VISA connects to the scope.

ScopeLink Cable

Connect the ScopeLink cable to the trigger-out port on the logic analyzer...

The ScopeLink cable's BNC is connected to the scope's external trigger input.

If the scope does not have an external trigger option, connect the BNC to a spare scope channel input.

The GoLogicXL model outputs a 3V to 0V falling edge when the trigger event occurs. Therefore, configure your scope to trigger on a falling-edge event at about 0.5V to 1V.

The ScopeLink cable physically aligns the scope and logic analyzer data.

When the logic analyzer triggers, a pulse occurs on the trigger-out port. The ScopeLink cable carries this pulse to your scope's external trigger input.

Enable ScopeLink

#1) Click a Line Edit Button to display the setup area.

#2) Choose the View: Scope Data option in the Setup Area.

#3) Click the ScopeLink Setup button and select the scope, scope trigger input, and the alignment setup.

#4) Click the WaveForm Setup Area button.

The ScopeLink connection must be configured only once.

Viewing a second scope probe on a different WaveForm line does not require the ScopeLink connection to be defined.

The scope settings are saved in the GL7 project files.

Using ScopeLink

When the Start button is clicked, the logic analyzer software automatically starts the scope running immediately before the logic analyzer begins running. This ensures the scope is waiting for the logic analyzer trigger event to occur.

When the logic analyzer triggers, the "trigger out" signal causes the scope to trigger. This signal physically aligns the scope and logic analyzer trigger events.

Once the scope and logic analyzer finish filling their memory, the data is downloaded and automatically aligned in the WaveForm view.

Disable ScopeLink

Click the ScopeLink Setup button to disable the scope without deleting WaveForm lines that display scope data.

Otherwise, all WaveForm lines displaying scope data can be deleted. ScopeLink is automatically disabled when no lines display scope data.
